Many computer users are moving towards a wireless keyboard mouse these days for several reasons. People who sit at a desk like keyboards and mice without wires because it can lead to a more organized and less cluttered desk. Particularly if you use a laptop computer at your desk, a wireless keyboard mouse is great because you don't need to connect and disconnect it every time you set up your laptop on the desk. You can also move around the room and still be able to type or mouse around your computer if they are wireless.
Another increasingly common use for a wireless keyboard mouse is for people who have a computer or media center connected to their TV. In this case, you are typically sitting a fair distance away from the computer and it's usually on a couch or a chair where a long cable is impractical and unattractive. With a wireless keyboard mouse, you can sit back on your couch and control movies, browse the internet or even type on your media center computer and TV without getting tangled up in a maze of cords. This also means that there is not a long wire for your kids or pets to trip over while you are using the media center computer.

Others talk to a small receiver that will only work if is plugged into a USB port on your computer. They will vary in the maximum distance that you can control the computer. Some will require that you be within several feet of the computer. Others will work 20 or more feet away. Of course, objects and walls in the way may cause the reception to be more poor. Cordless phones and microwaves have also been known to cause a wireless keyboard mouse to not work as well. Most models of a wireless keyboard mouse will require that both the keyboard and mouse be powered by small batteries. In some cases, they may have a built-in rechargeable battery so that you must connect them by USB to charge periodically.
