Surround Sound Speaker Stands
When putting together a surround sound system in family room or home theater, it's easy to get caught up in what types of speakers and display to buy, and forget how you are going to mount your speakers. Often the easiest answer is to find a set of surround sound speaker stands which hold your speakers at the appropriate listening height. You can find many surround sound speaker stands in a variety of colors, heights and prices buy searching online.
Not everyone needs to buy surround sound speaker stands. If you have furniture located in the correct positions, you may just be able to set your speakers there. For example, a bookcase in the back of the room may be the ideal location for the rear speakers in your surround sound system. You might be able to put your center speaker in the TV cabinet, and put your left and right front speakers on the built-in shelves. (Usually the subwoofer goes right on the floor.) In other cases, you can mount your surround speakers to the ceiling or walls. This takes more effort, but often is a great way to get the speakers out of the way. This can be a lot of work since you need to run audio cables and power through your walls which can require cutting through the sheetrock walls and repainting later. (You can also buy speakers which mount in the walls or ceiling but these are a lot more expensive)
If none of the above solutions work for you, consider buying a set of surround sound speaker stands for your listening room. They typically have a wide and heavy base to allow stability, and think pool or beam, and then a platform on which to mount your speakers. In some cases, they have adjustable height while others are fixed height. Try to match the weight of your speakers with the type of surround sound speaker stands you buy. A 50 pound speaker will need a beefy speaker stand, but a 2 pound speaker can use a very minimalist speaker stand since it doesn't need to support much weight. You can also investigate how to attach your speakers to the stands. Some stands come with a mounting bracket to attach your speakers. Others will want you to attach the speakers with some type of adhesive.
Surround sound speaker stands are an ideal way to mount your new speakers at the appropriate height in order to take full advantage of your new surround system. They come in a variety of colors to match your walls and carpet, and a full range of sizes and materials in order to be able to successfully support your speakers.
