Printer 11x17

A printer 11x17, often called a tabloid sized printer, is a great way to print larger size documents than would normally fit on a standard piece of paper. This really is a huge step up from a normal size letter piece of paper: 11x17 is two standard pieces of paper put side by side so it's double the size of a normal printer. You can buy a printer 11x17 from many online stores as well as by checking the office supply store near your office, business or home.

A printer 11x17 can be purchased in several technologies. You can buy an ink jet printer than can print 11x17 by using a print head that moves back and forth on the paper and sprays small drops of ink to make up the image. These printers can be slow, but the often the full color quality is very high for photos and other images. It's often not the best approach for printing text however. In some cases, you can buy an ink jet printer which is 13 by 19 inches which is enough to print a full bleed tabloid size paper which means that you can print literally right to edge of an 11 inch by 17 inch piece of paper without having white margins that run along the side.

You can also buy 11x17 laser printers. These cost a lot, but have some strong advantages including their speed and the incredibly high quality of the printed text. A black and white version will be fairly affordable, while a full color tabloid laser will be expensive to buy and expensive to maintain because it needs four different not inexpensive toner cartridges for black and each of three colors. These large lasers do an amazing job on text and line art, but will not be as good as ink jet printers for doing half tones and photos because the resolution will be coarser than most ink jets these days.

A dye sublimation printer is another choice for printing 11x17 jobs. These work by injecting a wax-based pigment into and into the paper. This can result in vivid colors and is waterproof, but can be slower and lower in resolution than other kinds of printers.

Many offices find that they were hesitant to buy an 11x17 printer but once they experience the convenience and speed that printing in larger sizes can offer, few choose to return to a smaller printer. While buying printers 11x17 tend to be more expensive, you can often save money by buying one used.
