Pool Table Table Tennis

Lots of people already have a pool table in their homes, but would also like to be able to play table tennis. The problem is that pool tables are already huge, and few people have the spare space to have a pingpong table alongside their pool table. The solution is to buy a pool table table tennis kit. This kit will allow you to temporarily layer on a table tennis table on top of your existing pool table.

You can buy pool table table tennis tops at online retailers or local sporting good shops. Once you buy one and install it, you'll be able to play table tennis on your pool table! The primary benefits are that it takes much much less space than a normal pingpong table, and that it also costs less than you would typically pay for a table tennis table. The downsides are that it's going to be a bit of a hassle to install and remove the table tennis table from your pool table every time that you want to play pool. Another problem is that usually this will not result in a regulation correct pingpong table: the dimensions may not be correct or the height won't be right. If you practice a lot on this type of table, you may find it difficult when you play later on a real table since you are used to an incorrectly configured table.

Pool table table tennis top kits will typically come with boards to put on top of the pool table in order to convert it to a surface for playing pingpong. Typically these boards are already correctly painted in order to play right away. The kits often come with a net which should be securely clamped to the table, as well as possibly coming with a few table tennis rackets and a few balls as well. It may also come with a ping pong DVD which explains the rules of the game and shows how to set up the kit.

I don't recommend that you even try playing pool table table tennis on the felt of your pool table. Not only will the balls not bounce correctly on the felt, but there's really no great place to mount the net and the raised edges of the pool table are terrible for table tennis.

If you're short on space or money, a pool table table tennis top kit can be a great way to play both pool and ping pong while only having one table in your home. If you end up player more table tennis than ping pong, you may consider selling your pool table and buying pingpong tables instead.
