A multifunction laser printer is a great way for many offices to accomplish many of the tasks they need to get done using a single high quality and affordable machine instead of buying several machines for each task.  You can buy multifunction laser printers online for good prices or find them at your local computer accessory stores.

As is obvious from the name, a multifunction laser printer is built around a laser printer.  Laser printing is a type of high quality printing that works in a unique way.  The print generates an electrostatic charge on the paper in all of the spots that should be black.  Then, this electrostatic charge attracts tiny particles of toner to stick to the paper.  Finally, this toner is ironed into the paper to become permanent.  This process is almost the same as the one used by most photocopy machines and can produce high quality printed documents very quickly that are also waterproof and resistant to smudging in most cases. Color laser printers work similarly by doing three additional passes with yellow, blue and red toner which can make up virtually any possible color.

In addition to being a laser printer, these multifunction units also include a few other features.  They usually have a scanner for inputting documents.  With this scanner, the printer can be used as photocopy machine by outputting the scan via the printer, or it can create electronic versions of the paper document on a computer.  It can also be used as a fax machine to send documents using the build-in scanner and to receive documents and print them on the laser printer. 

Many offices are choosing a multifunction laser printer because they are less expensive than buying several dedicated devices, and because the one machine takes up so little space compared to having 3 or 4 different units for each task.
