It's incredibly frustrating when your garage door is broken and finding a resource for garage door repair is critical. In some cases, you should be able to repair the door yourself if you are handy with tools, or you may want to contact someone who specializes in garage door repair work to fix the door for you.

Garage doors are great devices but there's a lot that can go wrong. The door can fall of the track, or the motor can get stuck. In some cases, the garage door opener remote can go bad as well. The first step is to consult the manual that came with your garage door and go through the basic troubleshooting procedures that they recommend. This will almost certainly include making sure that the opener has power and that the batteries in your remote garage door opener are fresh. You should also examine the garage door to see if you can spot any points of mechanical failure or difficulty which my be contributing to the door not opening. For example, you may be able to spot where the door has come out of it's track, or see that a chain has broken. Listen to see if you can hear the motor working or if the motor was completely stopped working. Also try to open the door manually if it is not jammed - this can be a good temporary solution since you'll at least be able to get your car into the garage or get your tools out before the door is fixed.

If you do need to contact someone about fixing your door, be careful since this is a situation which can often result in people being overcharged due to their desperate need to get in or out of the garage. The best possible case is if you have the contact information for the person or company who originally installed your door. This is ideal because they will be familiar with the model of opener and may even have some memory of how it as installed. If they come to take a look at it, they should recognize the type of wiring that was used because they installed it! Before they do any work, try to get a bid or estimate so that you are not on the hook for a huge repair bill for an easy fix.

If you cannot contact the people who originally installed the door for garage door repair, it's worth asking around among your friends and family in the area for references for people who have installed or fixed garage doors for them. Hopefully someone can recommend a repair person who was efficient, friendly and affordable.

The worst possible case is when you need to use a repair person that you have no knowledge about. Instead of calling the first person in the phone book, look on a local reviews site like Yelp to find reviews of local garage door repair companies and try to contact someone who has a lot of good reviews. After you use them, feel free to submit a review of your own to help out other people with their garage door repair problems!
