Drug detox is a critical part of kicking your addiction to drugs or pharmaceuticals.  It is the process of getting all traces of drugs out of your body and beginning to get over the symptoms of withdrawal from your substance addiction.  You can find a place in your town that can help with drug detox by searching online or by contacting a local drug and alcohol addiction resource center.

One important component of drug detox is to get as much of the traces of drugs out of your body as possible. Some drugs will stay in your body longer than others and, in most cases, the best way to get it out is simply to wait!  Of course you will want to make sure that you are not adding additional drugs to your system!  Once all of the drugs are out of your system, you are on the track towards getting your former substance free life back.  Unfortunately, getting the drug out of your body is quite possibly just the beginning of getting over your drug addiction.  A mild drug like marijuana is quickly expelled from your body and is not physically addictive.  Other stronger drugs will form a physical addiction such that once your body no longer has access to the drug, the addiction causes your body to be dependent on the foreign substance and in its absence, will cause symptoms of withdrawal that can be miserable and even dangerous.

When you are going through these symptoms of withdrawal during your drug detox, it's best to make sure that you have a system of support.  This may be a supportive friend or even a professional drug rehab and treatment facility that will be an expert on helping people get through their withdrawal period.  For many people, this can literally be one of the most miserable periods of their lives because their body so desperately craves the drug and will cause you misery in order to get it back.  Eventually your body will get over this withdrawal period and loosen it's grip on your addiction and let you return to your previous life.

Some drugs can have very dangerous withdrawal symptoms because the power of the addiction is so strong.  In these cases, it's highly recommended to go through this period under the careful care and supervision of experts who know how to deal with this and all the things that can go wrong.

Some people do choose to undergo drug detox on their own, but it's a difficult process without expert support and can even be dangerous.  It will require a strong will and determination to get past the withdrawal symptoms which are all designed to get you to give up and continue your use of the drug.
